Every now and then a wonderful piece of Fender history comes through our hands and  all the better if it has a good provenance too! This beautiful Jazzmaster was bought in South Africa around 1965 second hand from Grahame Beggs of The Shangaans. It has been with the same owner since. It had been over sprayed in gold, but subsequently taken back to the original burst. Having been in SA for many years the colours will have faded significantly. Other than having a set up there has been no alterations.

We have stripped the guitar and looked at the internals, and while we are happy to be corrected, we feel this is 100% original. The pot codes date from 1961. The serial number (pre "L") falls as 61/62 and the neck pencil mark looks like 62. The fact it is pencil denotes pre '63 when stamps were introduced. Being a non slab board shows it as after 1960.

The frets, while lower than new are excellent, no ruts and very playable. The body finish is exactly as you can see in the pictures, perfect checking all over and buckle rash in the middle of the back. A nice bit of wear in the rosewood on the cowboy chord zone.

I am 90% sure the case is original, certainly period and style correct.
